Specimens above were found on Dulce, Palmaria palmata, on the lowershore at Roskilley, near Mousehole, Cornwall, 16.04.18.

Galls in Palmaria palmata are known to be caused by bacteria and the parasitic copepod Thalestris rhodymeniae (Brady, 1894), syn. Fucitrogus rhodymieniae Brady, 1894 which appears the likely agent. Galls are caused by the naupliar stage of this harpacticid copepod.

The main objective of this website is in furthering environmental awareness and education through the medium of photography. To increase awareness and access to the wildlife of the region and help
people find and identify it. Sometimes the difference between species is obvious but many species can only be determined by observing microscopic characteristics that are specific to any one species.
