Quite a common find on most sandy beaches and sheltered bays in the county. Shells of this species are particularly common after storms when they are frequently washed up on the high tide mark or below. Live animals are often found close to the low tide mark, where they are commonly dug and used as bait by fishermen.

Photographed at Whitsand Bay near Torpoint, and Par Beach, St. Blazey, and at Par, near St. Austell, Cornwall.

Scientific and European Names:

The main objective of this website is in furthering environmental awareness and education through the medium of photography. To increase awareness and access to the wildlife of the region and help
people find and identify it. Sometimes the difference between species is obvious but many species can only be determined by observing microscopic characteristics that are specific to any one species.
