and intertidal areas of Great Britain and Ireland by David Fenwick.

The British Marine Life Study Society (Glaucus)
The British Marine Life Study Society is responsible for producing the journal GLAUCUS, which is the first publication exploring the marine life of the seas surrounding the British Isles available to the general public.

The Society also publishes the quarterly SHOREWATCH Newsletter and the TORPEDO Electronic News Bulletin.

The Society's Purpose and Aims are to -

- stimulate interest in the undersea world and natural history of the seas, and related subjects.
- bridge the gap between the popular books and scientific literature by publishing readable and informative articles on marine life and the ocean environment.
- liaise and co-operate with conservation and fishery organisations and other wildlife groups.
- study of the marine fauna and flora of the shore and seas surrounding the British Isles.
- publish and distribute knowledge of marine life and the marine environment of the British Isles.
- promote ideas and projects concerning the conservation of the British marine environment.

The BMLSS is a voluntary unincorporated society, run on a non-profit making basis. Although not a Registered Charity, the BMLSS follows the rules applicable to Registered Charities as far as possible.

The motto of the BMLSS is 'Vincit Omnia Veritas' = Truth Conquers All.

The journal title 'Glaucus' derives from Greek mythology and means the colour of the sea. It is the generic name for a species of sea slug and this animal is represented on the logo. 'Glauca' is the specific name of the Blue Shark.
