Species found in, and fringing small pools on the middleshore at Chyandour Rocks, Penzance, Cornwall. 21.05.15.

This unbranched tortuose algae is associated with Coral Weed, Corallina officinalis; it is also quite a common algae that has a wide distribution around the UK and Ireland.

The problem is that over the years many names have been applied, and potentially mis-applied to this species, which may, in this day and age, be found to be a complex of species. Chaetomorpha capillaris, C. mediterranea, C. ligustica and C. linum have all been associated with it.

The main objective of this website is in furthering environmental awareness and education through the medium of photography. To increase awareness and access to the wildlife of the region and help
people find and identify it. Sometimes the difference between species is obvious but many species can only be determined by observing microscopic characteristics that are specific to any one species.
