Images of this algae taken on the lowershore eelgrass beds at Marazion, and Long Rock, Cornwall. 19.03.11 and 22.03.11.

The red algae was seen to be epithitic on the older leaves of eelgrass plants, the coverage was quite extensive, leaving the eelgrass beds brown in colour and looking like they were dying off. Two months previous to this the beds were all green in colour, even after the hard winter weather in December 2010.

The possible identity of this species was made with the help of Michael Guiry and his excellent seaweed website.
