Often confused with seeds or even oak apple galls, Leca®, or Lightweight expanded clay aggregate, is commonly found on the strandline on both the north and south coast of Cornwall and elsewhere. The product is commonly used horticulturally so may enter the sea via river systems and water courses from gardens and the horticultural industry.

The Leca® here was collected and photographed within Carnsew Pool, Hayle, Cornwall. 17.03.16.

The main objective of this website is in furthering environmental awareness and education through the medium of photography. To increase awareness and access to the wildlife of the region and help
people find and identify it. Sometimes the difference between species is obvious but many species can only be determined by observing microscopic characteristics that are specific to any one species.
