The Large necklace shell or Moon snail is one of our larger marine snails more commonly found on the beaches of the south coast than the north, especially common in St. Austell Bay area; where the smaller Alder’s necklace shell, Euspira pulchella, can also be found. The shells are quite light shell for their size, and frequently washes up on the high tidemark amongst seaweed.

Images taken at Crinnis Beach (Carlyon Bay), St. Austell; and Spit Point, Par, Cornwall.
