This species is quite variable and found in a variety of habitats, both on the coast and in estuaries; the species is generally to be found on the lowershore. Images were taken at Spit Point, Par, near St. Austell; Mylor Churchtown, near Falmouth, Cornwall and Batten Bay, Plymouth, Devon.

Suberites ficus, Suberites domuncula, Sea Orange, Fig Sponge, Sulphur Sponge, Hermit Sponge, Einsiedler-Korkschwamm, Feigenschwamm, Vijgspons, Orange de mer, Suberite figue, Esponja del ermitano, Spugna del paguro.
