Specimens above found in samples of fouling, taken from pontoons at Newlyn Marina, Newlyn, Cornwall. 17.03.15 and 14.04.15.

Species is extremely common in samples and occurs in fully saline conditions in silt trapped between fauna and flora.

The species here has been un-identified for quite a length of time, that is until Prof. Christer Erseus at the University of Gothenburg recognized the genus as Ctenodrilus. The most common species of Ctenodrilus is Ctenodrilus serratus. I am hoping a polychaete expert can confirm the genus and species as the species represents one of the ten most common worms at Newlyn Marina.

The main objective of this website is in furthering environmental awareness and education through the medium of photography. To increase awareness and access to the wildlife of the region and help
people find and identify it. Sometimes the difference between species is obvious but many species can only be determined by observing microscopic characteristics that are specific to any one species.
