Hundreds of specimens were found on taking the carapace off a medium sized, dead Shore crab, Carcinus maenas. The crab was found in the shallow sublittoral approx. one meter below the low water mark, on sand, in front of Penzance Promende, Penzance, Cornwall, 22.07.20. SW47072960.

Finding numerous specimens inside a crab carcass is very typical for this species, this species can also be found in Echinocardium, Sea Potato tests and it may rob bait from lobster pots. Care must be taken with the identification of Tryphosa nana as Tryphosa crenata (Chevreux & Fage, 1925) is a very similar species. Tryphosa nana is also supported by data from CEFAS, from grab samples taken in Mounts Bay in 2012, Tryphosa crenata being absent.
