Elphidium crispum here displayed was in sand collected by Adrian Brokenshire at an unknown location at Carrick Roads, Falmouth, Cornwall, collection date unknown. The identification is based upon "Bellier J.-P., Mathieu R. and Granier B., 2010: Treatise on Foraminiferology (Essential on modern and fossil Foraminifera) [Court traitè de foraminifèrologie (L'essentiel sur les foraminifères actuels et fossiles)]. Carnets de Gèologie - Notebooks on Geology, Brest, Book 2010/02 (CG2010_B02). 104 pp. Plate 4, Fig. 000g", the specimen has not been verified.

In Cornwall this species was found by Stella Turk MBE at Newtrain Reef in 1980. Edward Heron-Allen FRS found the species between 1914 and 1929, in Whitsand Bay and in Cawsand Bay and at the Eddystone. He refers to the species as being universally distributed in south Cornwall in 1916. Prof. J. Clark recorded the species from the Plymouth District pre. 1906. Clark reports the species as being almost unknown below the 20 fathom mark. All records above as Elphidium crispum.

The main objective of this website is in furthering environmental awareness and education through the medium of photography. To increase awareness and access to the wildlife of the region and help
people find and identify it. Sometimes the difference between species is obvious but many species can only be determined by observing microscopic characteristics that are specific to any one species.
