Triloculina oblonga (Montagu, 1803) - A hauerinid foram (Foraminifera images)
Hauerinid foram
Triloculina oblonga
- specimen from Carrick Roads, Falmouth, Cornwall, images by Cai-Uso Wohler.

Triloculina oblonga here displayed was in sand collected by Adrian Brokenshire at an unknown location at Carrick Roads, Falmouth, Cornwall, collection date unknown. The identification is based upon "Cushman, J., A., 1929: The Foraminifera of the Atlantic Ocean. Part 6. Miliolidae, Ophthalmidiidae and Fischerinidae. Smithsonian Institution United States National Museum Bulletin 104. Plate 13, Fig. 4-5", the species has not been verified.

In Cornwall this species was occasionally found by Edward Heron-Allen FRS between 1904 and 1929, being found around the Eddystone, and across the south coast from Penzance-Newlyn in west Cornwall to Whitsand Bay in south-east Cornwall. Edward Heron-Allen describes the species as being 'universally distributed in 1916'. The species was also found on the Rame-Eddystone grounds by Prof. J. Clark, pre. 1906. There are two records of Miliolinella oblonga var. lata by Edward Heron-Allen on the ERICA database, from the Eddystone, these 'may' apply to Quinqueloculina lata Terquem, 1876, but WoRMS does not report a relationship between the the var. and the species.

The main objective of this website is in furthering environmental awareness and education through the medium of photography. To increase awareness and access to the wildlife of the region and help
people find and identify it. Sometimes the difference between species is obvious but many species can only be determined by observing microscopic characteristics that are specific to any one species.
