This was a rather large nematode approx. 20mm in length. It was found in a sample obtained by washing Spiny starfish at Newlyn, Cornwall, 26.07.18. The Spiny starfish were collected as a result of crab potting off the Lizard Peninsula in about 30-40m depth. I've no idea where this species came from i.e. if it's free living or a parasite of either Spiny starfish or indeed the spider crab genus Macropodia which are commomly found on washing Spiny starfish/

The main objective of this website is in furthering environmental awareness and education through the medium of photography. To increase awareness and access to the wildlife of the region and help
people find and identify it. Sometimes the difference between species is obvious but many species can only be determined by observing microscopic characteristics that are specific to any one species.
