Species found on a sample of hydroid found on the side of the marina pontoon at Newlyn Marina, Newlyn Harbour, Newlyn, Cornwall. 02.10.14.

A missed opportunity to arrive at species as hydroid species in the sample taken this day were not kept in separate containers, so the Dotos food supply could not be determined. Doto species tend to feed on different hydroid species.

Doto species can be quite similar looking and the species of hydroid on which they are feeding is sometime key to their determination. An expert opinion is also needed in many cases.

Determining species from images, even if one knows the hydroid they've come from is likely to be very difficult.

The main objective of this website is in furthering environmental awareness and education through the medium of photography. To increase awareness and access to the wildlife of the region and help
people find and identify it. Sometimes the difference between species is obvious but many species can only be determined by observing microscopic characteristics that are specific to any one species.
