Images taken at Roskilley, near Newlyn, Cornwall. Species was found lining uppershore pool, and also on pebbles in middleshore pools. 04.08.11. Species also found in uppershore pool at Marazion, Cornwall. 07.04.14.

This species is named in honour of John Ralfs, an accomplished Penzance botanist born in 1807. He is most well known for his monograph of the “British Desmidieae”, which was published in 1848.
